Peay was born in Salt Lake City and grew up in Murray, Utah. She earned a bachelor’s degree at Brigham Young University where she founded the International Folk Dance team. After graduation she joined the faculty at Brigham Young University in 1974 and at the time of her death was the university’s longest-serving faculty member. She taught classes in tap dancing, folk dancing, and the world of dance.
