Eleven Women in New Administrative Roles at Colleges and Universities

Cynthia Griffith was promoted to vice president for instruction at Blinn College in Brenham, Texas. She has been serving as vice president for allied health sciences. Dr. Griffith has been on the staff at Blinn College since 2006.
Dr. Griffith is a graduate of Midwestern State University in Wichita Falls, Texas. She holds a master’s degree from Stephen F. Austin State University in Nacogdoches, Texas, and an educational doctorate from Sam Houston State University in Huntsville, Texas.
Emily Van Houweling was named associate director for Women and Gender in International Development for the Office of International Research, Education, and Development at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University in Blacksburg. Dr. Van Houweling was a Peace Corps volunteer in Mali and received a Fulbright grant to study a rural water project in Mozambique.
Dr. Van Houweling is a graduate of Occidental College in Los Angeles and holds a master’s degree and a Ph.D. from Virginia Tech.
Leslie S. Rush was named associate dean in the College of Education at the University of Wyoming. She will continue to serve as a tenured associate professor in the department of secondary education.
Dr. Rush holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Texas A&M University in Commerce and a doctorate from the University of Georgia.
Dianthia Ford-Kee was named director of athletics at Mississippi Valley State University. She was the director of athletics at Lincoln University of Pennsylvania for five years and previously served for 18 years as an athletics administrator and coach at Shaw University in Raleigh, North Carolina.
Ford-Kee is a graduate of Fayetteville State University in North Carolina and holds a master’s degree in public affairs from Northern Illinois University in DeKalb.
Christine Hutchins was appointed vice president for marketing and communications at Mount Holyoke College in South Hadley, Massachusetts. She has been serving as the senior associate athletics director for external relations at Stanford University in California. Hutchins will begin her new duties on February 3.
Hutchins is a graduate of the University of Chicago and holds an MBA from the Sloan School of Management at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
Elizabeth Mosely-Hawkins was promoted to director of public relations at South Carolina State University in Orangeburg. She was the director of communications for the university’s 1890 Research Program. Before joining the staff at South Carolina State in 2007, Mosely-Hawkins was the assistant director of public relations at the University of Maryland Baltimore County.
Mosely-Hawkins is a graduate of South Carolina State University, where she majored in English. She holds a master’s degree in public affairs and interactive journalism from American University in Washington, D.C.
Marylou Ferry was named vice president and chief communications officer at Pomona College in Claremont, California. She was vice president of communications and marketing at nearby Scripps College. She will begin her new job on January 1. Earlier in her career, Ferry served as communications director for former Governor Gary Locke in Washington State.
Ferry is a graduate of the University of Puget Sound in Tacoma, Washington.
Sarah Craven Cooke was promoted to director of the Emory University Alumni Association in Atlanta, Georgia. She was the senior associate vice president and since 2007 she has served as the senior director for initiatives and technology for the association. She has been on the staff since 2001.
Cooke is a graduate of Emory University earning a bachelor’s degree in human and natural ecology.
Margaret L. Anderson was named interim vice provost for faculty affairs and diversity at the University of Delaware. She will serve in the newly created post while a search is conducted to fill the position on a permanent basis. Dr. Anderson has been serving as executive director of the President’s Diversity Initiative at the university and is the Edward F. Goodman Rosenberg Professor of Sociology.
Professor Anderson has served on the university’s faculty since 1974. She is the author of Thinking About Women: Sociological Perspectives on Sex and Gender (Pearson, Ninth Edition, 2010 ) and On Land and Sea: Women in the Rosenfeld Collection (Mystic Seaport Museum, 2007). Dr. Anderson is a graduate of Georgia State University and holds a master’s degree and a Ph.D. from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst.
Charlotte E. Exner was named executive director of the Hussman Center for Adults With Autism at Towson University in Maryland. Dr. Exner has served as the dean of the College of Health Professions at the university for 16 years. She will take on her new role on July 1, 2014.
Dr. Exner is a graduate of Ohio State University. She holds a master’s degree from Johns Hopkins University and a Ph.D. from the University of Maryland.
Donna Ng was appointed vice president for business affairs and treasurer at Scripps College in Claremont, California. She will begin her new duties on January 27. She has been serving as senior associate provost for budget and planning at Wellesley College in Massachusetts. Ng is the former budget director of Babson College in Wellesley, Massachusetts.
Ng is a graduate of Boston College and holds an MBA from Babson College.
