The University of Nebraska at Omaha has set a goal of doubling the number of women enrolled in information science and technology programs by the year 2015. In order to meet the goal, the university has mounted a fundraising campaign to raise $400,000 which will be used for programs to encourage women to enter these fields.
The money will be used to fund programs to introduce young women to IT fields at area high schools and middle schools. Scholarships for women in graduate and undergraduate programs in information technology will be available. And other money will be used to recruit women into these disciplines and to mentor them once they enroll.
