The Next Provost of Western Carolina University

Alison Morrison-Shetlar has been chosen as the next provost of Western Carolina University in Cullowhee, North Carolina. The university enrolls about 9,600 students. Women make up 53 percent of the 8,000-member undergraduate student body.
Dr. Morrison-Shetlar will begin her new job on January 15. Currently, she is a professor of biology and dean of the College of Arts and Sciences at Elon University in Elon, North Carolina. Dr. Morrison-Shetlar has 33 years of experience in higher education, working at eight institutions in three countries. Among her past posts are vice provost and dean of undergraduate studies at the University of Central Florida in Orlando and director of the Center for Excellence in Teaching at Georgia Southern University.
A native of Scotland, Dr. Morrison-Shetlar holds a bachelor’s degree in biology and chemistry and a Ph.D. in biomedical science from the Dundee College of Technology in Dundee, Scotland.
