President of Black Hills State University Is Retiring at the End of the Academic Year

Kay Schallenkamp, the ninth president of Black Hills State University in Spearfish, South Dakota, has announced that she will step down from her post at the end of the academic year. Dr. Schallenkamp has been president of the university since 2006. Earlier in her career, she served for nine years as president of Emporia State University in Kansas and was provost and vice chancellor for academic affairs at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater.
Dr. Schallenkamp is a graduate of Northern State University in Aberdeen, South Dakota. She holds a master’s degree from the University of South Dakota and a Ph.D. from the University of Colorado.
