Nursing Dean at the University of Virginia Earns Second Five-Year Term

Dorrie K. Fontaine was appointed to a second five-year term as dean of the School of Nursing at the University of Virginia. Dr. Fontaine, who was named dean in 2008, is the Sadie Heath Cabaniss Professor of Nursing at the school and is the founder of the Compassionate Care Initiative.
Before joining the faculty at the University of Virginia, Dr. Fontaine was associate dean for academic programs and clinical professor at the University of California San Francisco. Earlier in her career she held associate dean positions and taught at Georgetown University School of Nursing. She is a past president of the American Association of Critical Care Nurses.
Dr. Fontaine received her bachelor’s degree in nursing from Villanova University in Pennsylvania. She holds a master’s degree from the University of Maryland and a Ph.D. from the Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C.
