Purdue University Scholar to Lead the Society of Civil War Historians

Caroline E. Janney, associate professor of history at Purdue University in West Lafayette, Indiana, has been chosen as the next president of the Society of Civil War Historians. She will serve a three-year term covering the years 2014-2016.
The society was founded in 1984 and publishes the Journal of the Civil War Era. Each year the society awards the Tom Watson Book Prize for the best book on the Civil War.
Dr. Janney earned a Ph.D. at the University of Virginia. She is the author of Burying the Dead but Not the Past: Ladies’ Memorial Associations and the Lost Cause (University of North Carolina Press, 2008) and Remembering the Civil War: Reunion and the Limits of Reconciliation (University of North Carolina Press, 2013).
