Here is this week’s news of grants and gifts that may be of particular interest to women in higher education.
The University of Wyoming received a five-year, $1.5 million grant from the National Institutes of Health for research aimed at reducing a nationwide epidemic of maternal obesity. Maternal obesity not only is a health risk for women during pregnancy but can impact their unborn children.
Paine College in Augusta, Georgia, received a three-year $342,899 grant for a program for a research project to determine the cause of the low participation rate of African American women in STEM fields.
The grant project is under the direction of LaShawnda Lindsay-Dennis an assistant professor of education and Lawanda Cummings, an assistant professor of psychology at the college.
