The New President of the American Sociologial Association

Paula England, professor of sociology at New York University, has been elected president of the American Sociological Association. The ASA was founded in Baltimore in 1905 and now has more than 14,000 members. The association publishes 10 journals and magazines.
Professor England is the author of Comparable Worth: Theories and Evidence (Aldine Transaction, 1992) and the co-author of Households, Employment, and Gender: A Social, Economic, and Demographic View (Aldine Transaction, 1986).
Professor England is a graduate of Whitman College in Walla Walla, Washington. She earned a master’s degree in social sciences and a Ph.D. in sociology from the University of Chicago.
