In Memoriam: Gerry Cadenhead Fletcher, 1939-2013

Gerry Cadenhead Fletcher, former dean of the College of Nursing at the University of Southern Mississippi, died late last month at Forrest General Hospital in Hattiesburg. She was 73 years old.

A native of Marshall, Texas, Dr. Fletcher was a graduate of Baylor University. She earned a master’s degree at the University of Colorado and a doctorate at the University of Texas.

Dr. Fletcher joined the faculty at the University of Southern Mississippi in 1980 as a professor and chair of the nursing program. She was named dean of the College of Nursing in 1997 and served in that role until her retirement in 2001. After retiring, she served on the board of directors of the University of Southern Mississippi’s Athletic Foundation.
