University of California, Riverside Faculty Member Wins Book Award from the Western Writers of America

Deanne Stillman, a member of the core faculty at the University of California, Riverside-Palm Desert Low Residency Master of Fine Arts Creative Writing Program, was won the 2013 Spur Award in the nonfiction category from the Western Writers of America. She received the award this past Saturday at the association’s 60th annual meeting in Las Vegas. The Spur Awards are awarded in several categories for the best writing concerning the American West.
Stillman was honored for her book, Desert Reckoning: A Town Sheriff, a Mojave Hermit, and the Biggest Manhunt in Modern California History (Nation Books, 2012). The book concerns the 2005 murder of a Los Angeles County deputy sheriff and the manhunt to find his killer.
