Bennett College Names Its New Provost

Joyce Blackwell is the new provost at Bennett College in Greensboro, North Carolina. Dr. Blackwell came to Bennett College in the summer of 2012 as senior associate provost. Previously, she was vice president for academic affairs at South Carolina State University. She is the author of No Peace Without Freedom: Race and the Women’s International League for Peace and Freedom, 1915-1975 (Southern Illinois University Press, 2004). Dr. Blackwell also serves as the president of the Association of Chief Academic Officers of the Southern States.
Dr. Blackwell holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees from North Carolina Central University in Durham. She holds a Ph.D. in women’s history and African American history from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
