The school board in Denton, Texas, recently voted to name the city’s seventh middle school in honor of Bettye Myers, a professor of kinesiology at Texas Woman’s University. The new middle school is scheduled to open next fall. Dr. Myers served on the Denton school board for six years, and was president of the board for four of those years.
Professor Myers has been part of the Texas Woman’s University community for more than 60 years. She received both her bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the university in health, physical education and recreation. She later earned a Ph.D. in counseling from the University of Michigan. She joined the faculty at Texas Woman’s University in 1961.
