Five Women Taking on New Faculty Roles

Virginia Blanton was promoted to full professor of English language and literature at the University of Missouri at Kansas City. She is the author of Signs of Devotion: The Cult of St. AEthelthryth in Medieval England, 695-1615 (Pennsylvania State University Press, 2007).
Professor Blanton is a graduate of Southwestern College. She holds a master’s degree and a Ph.D. from Binghamton University.
Catherine Bagwell was appointed professor of psychology at Colgate University in Hamilton, New York. She was the MacEldin Trawick Professor of Psychology at the University of Richmond.
Dr. Bagwell is a graduate of the University of Richmond and holds a master’s degree and a Ph.D. from Duke University. She is the co-author of the books Friendships in Childhood and Adolescence (Guilford Press, 2011) and Medicating Children: ADHD and Pediatric Mental Health (Harvard University Press, 2009).
Elaine Heekin was promoted to full professor of dance and movement studies at Hamilton College in Clinton, New York.
Professor Heekin earned a master’s degree in dance choreography from the University of California at Los Angeles and received certification in Laban Movement Analysis from the University of Seattle.
Despina Stavrinos was named assistant professor of psychology at the University of Alabama Birmingham. She was director of the Translational Research for Injury Prevention Laboratory at the university.
Dr. Stavrinos is a graduate of the University of Alabama at Tuscaloosa. She holds a master’s degree and a Ph.D. from the University of Alabama Birmingham.
Daisy Stewart Cartwright was named associate professor emerita in the College of Liberal Arts and Human Sciences at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University. She has been on the faculty at Virginia Tech since 1980.
Dr. Cartwright holds bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral degrees, all from the University of Missouri.
