New Grants or Gifts Relating to Women in Higher Education

Here is this week’s news of grants and gifts that may be of particular interest to women in higher education.
Mount Holyoke College, the liberal arts educational institution for women in South Hadley, Massachusetts, received a $150,000 grant from the Institute of Museum and Library Sciences to aid in digitizing the 17,000 pieces of art in the college’s art museum. The grant will cover the cataloging of over 4,000 of the most frequently studied pieces in the collection.
Joanna Burdette, an assistant professor of medicinal chemistry at the University of Illinois at Chicago, received a four-year, $720,000 grant from the American Cancer Society of Illinois for her research on the origins of ovarian cancer.
Dr. Burdette is a graduate of Emory University. She holds a Ph.D. from the University of Illinois at Chicago.
