Marcia Hawkins Named President of Union College in Kentucky

Marcia A. Hawkins has been named the 19th president of Union College in Barbourville, Kentucky. She will be the first woman president of the college, a four-year liberal arts institution founded in 1879 by the United Methodist Church. She will begin her new duties in July.

Currently, Dr. Hawkins is the associate director for advancement for the National Institute for Technology in Liberal Education, which is based in Georgetown, Texas.

The daughter of a West Virginia coal miner, Dr. Hawkins was the first person in her family to earn a college degree. She earned a bachelor’s degree and a Ph.D. in history at the University of Texas at Arlington. She holds a master’s degree from Texas Wesleyan University in Fort Worth. Dr. Hawkins is the former president of the Texas Independent College Foundation.
